ICC awards two new teams Test status


Cricket Ireland (CI) and Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) today was given the Test status. Both the teams were awarded with a full membership at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). They were voted because of the dedication showed on and of field.

Both the teams met the newly approved criteria and are now eligible play test. ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said, “ I’d like to congratulate Afghanistan anAfghanistan-cricketd Ireland on their full membership status which is the result of their dedication both off and on the field resulting in the significant development and growth of cricket in their respective countries. Both have clearly demonstrated they meet the new criteria and as such have made the progression to full membership.


Shafiq Stanikzai said it was a great achievement for a nation like Afghanistan. He was overwhelmed by the fact their hard work has payed off and they will continue to do their best to retain the gained status. There can no better EID gifthe proclaimed and said its a news worth celebrating nation wide. He thanked ICC and commented on their credibility to see this sport reach global heights.Ireland-Cricket-TeamCricket Irelands Chief Executive Warren Dutrom too was delighted and this say as an historic one in Irish calendar. He thanked ICC and also the players, the supporting staff, the coach, the board etc for putting in a combined effort to see to endeavour this moment today.
