Brazilian court to decide Lula’s future today

The Brazilian court today is likely to decide whether to uphold the prison term given to former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the corruption and money laundering cases.

It was in July 2017 the leader was found guilty by the court in the corruption and money laundering cases.

If the three judges, who are going to consider the petition filed by the former president against the 2017 conviction, decide to uphold the judgement given by the lower court, the ex-supremo’s political ambitions will meet a disastrous climax.

Lula has huge plans for the future. He is planning to contest in the upcoming presidential election, which is scheduled to take place in October this year.

Given the fact that the leftist leader’s popularity and acceptance among his supporters, mostly poor people, has not decreased despite his conviction in the corruption and money laundering cases, the ex-supremo has adequate strength to regain the position which he lost due to the corruption cases and allegations.

The citizens of the country, particularly those having political inclinations, are badly divided over the issue. The place where the court situated has witnessed several serious protests and demonstrations; both pro-Lula faction and anti-Lula faction have gathered in the streets near the court.
