Defending champions cramped as Sri Lanka wins : ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY

814824_1The Lankans left defending champion way behind. After setting up a pretty promising total of 321, India was well settled in the driving seat. But a poor performance in the second half saw them well in the boot. Lankans drove the Indian bowlers around, and to be precise, they hammered them awfully. A great stint by Rohit Sharma (78 of 79 balls), Shikar Dhawan ( 125 of 128) and MS Dhoni (63 0f 52) couldn’t save India. India once again off to a slow start, capitalized with wickets in hand. Kohli went back to pavilion with out scoring anything and the last game’s man of the match Yuvraj to fell for just 7.

Sri Lanka on the other hand looked, though lost their first wicket pretty soon, they never looked back. Gunathilaka ( 76 of 72 balls) along with Mendis (89 of 93 balls) made a stand of 159 runs before the former got involved in a run out. Except for a wicket to Kumar, the rest two run outs. That shows how dominating the Sri Lankan batsmen were. Angelo Mathews ( 52 of 45 balls ) along with the youngster DAS Gunaratne ( 34 of 21 balls ) made sure that the Lankans were home safely. Gunaratne even though started of with a scratch, went on play the role of a cameo unexpectedly. They went on to win with a over more to go.

The tournament just got interesting with each team having scored 2 points each in group B will be looking forward for their next. It’s a must win for everybody. India take on South Africa next and Pakistan takes on Sri Lanka.
