Despite Spain’s disapproval, Catalonia prepares to conduct ‘Independence Referendum’

Catalonia is set to organise a referendum seeking independence from Spain, despite severe actions taken by the central authority to suppress all elements that support such a move.

The voting process is likely to take place on Sunday. Even though the regional government of the Catalonia is in support of such a move, the central authority, which is extremely determinant to eliminate all efforts directed towards inflicting injury on the unity of Spanish people, is not in favour of the move, so many central soldiers and police officials have been deployed in the region to avoid such a thing from taking place.

The central authorities have initiated all measures to make sure that no direct or indirect campaign like the online campaign programs take place in the region in order to encourage people to participate in the referendum.

Openly challenging the authorities, tens of thousands of the Catalan independence supporters have gathered in the streets of Spain to take part the demonstrations supporting the Catalan independence.

Addressing one such gathering, the Regional President, Carles Puigdemont, has said that the referendum is the first step towards the independence of the region.

At this moment, it is very difficult to predict whether the regional government will safely sail through the referendum or not.
