England book the slot first : ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2017

England on Tuesday sealed their slot in Semi final after defeating New Zealand by 87 runs. It was the constant build up of partnerships that took England to a respectful total. After setting up the target of 311, England bowlers panicked half way as New Zealand were 158 for the loss of 2 with Williamson set on crease at 87. But the things turned around as England lost rest of the 8 wickets in a span of 14 overs and managed only 65 runs more.

The conditions were not beneficial to the either of the opponents. Strong wind blew across, halting the bowlers half way across their run. The pitch had some uneven bounce and both the opponents took the advantage of it. Fast bowlers were the the first pick as it provided them with pace and bounce. Jacob Ball was given the man of the match award for his tight bowling and being the best of 5 bowlers used by England. He ended his outing for the day with 8 over and 2 wickets at an economy of 3.87. Though Plunkett picked up 4 wickets, he was at the expensive side of the economy with a run rate of 5.78. For England Ashley – 56, Joe Root – 64, and Jos Buttler 61 scored half centuries while stokes fell 2 runs short of 50.

New Zealand stand a chance to Semi Final if they win against Bangladesh next and if England beat Australia. The odds of both happening together is the only way out for New Zealand.
