EU Disapproves UK new Brexit proposal for ‘EU citizens

European Union backfired Theresa May after she put forward a new proposal rights of EU citizens living in UK. They said it risked their stand in the country by creating a “Second class of citizenship”. The proposal was described as “Damp Squid” by the EU chief Guy Verhofstadt who is also the Brexit negotiator.

According to the proposal put forward by Theresa May, EU citizens who have lived in UK for five years would get the “Settled Status”. And rest who have not yet completed 5 years can wait till they complete the due course and then apply for the status. This threat that comes in is the EU citizens would be eligible to much fewer rights than the UK citizen in EU nations.

Verhofstadt argues and critiqued the UK government to fall short of its promises made during the vote leave campaign where they stated it would treat all EU citizens equally just like how it persists now after the Brexit.

According to the letter written by EU stated “ The proposal falls short go its own ambitions to ‘put citizen first’. If implemented, it would cast a dark cloud of vagueness and uncertainty over the lives of millions of Europeans.”
