History repeats as Australia Vs New Zealand match washed out : ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2017

The second match of ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2017 between Australia and New Zealand was washed out due to rain. History was repeated as last time both the teams came head to head for ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2013, the game was washed out due to rain.

The rain hit match was initially reduced to 46 overs a side. Captain Kane Williamson lead from the front with a promising 100 of 97 balls which included 8 fours and 3 sixes. Openers Martin Guptill and Luke Ronchi were off to blistering start before Guptill fell pray to Josh Hazlewood. Ross Taylor played a supporting role with Williamson and added up a partnership of 99 runs. Even thou New Zealand had steady start with top order constantly trying to build partnership, the middle order couldn’t capitalise. Josh Hazlewood was at its peak with the bowl as he picked up 6 wickets to wrap up New Zealand innings at 291.

Rain god sprang before the Australian Innings, reducing the target to 235 in 33 Overs. Australia who had a decent start lost their wickets in regular interval before rain paused the game again at 53/3 in 9 overs. There was no looking back for rain, the game was tied with each team winning 1 point each. The next two matches would be a pretty one as England has already won one game against Bangladesh. They will have to win both their remaining matches to find a place in semi-final which is to be held on June 14th and 15th respectively.
