Railways using bee sounds to stop elephant deaths

railways-elephantThe Indian Railways will be using a device to amplify the sound of honeybees to prevent elephants crossing on the tracks, especially in the Northeast Frontier zone.
The “Plan Bee” project was proposed in 2018 and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal revealed its success on Friday.

Every year numerous elephants have died in India after colliding with trains. Presently the North East frontier railway has installed a device which creates the honey bee sound. The sound can be heard from approximately 600 meters and its believed that elephants do not like the sound of honey bees.
