Russia banned from participating in ‘2018 Winter Olympics’

The International Olympic Committee has banned Russia, who was accused of indulging in a criminal act of state-sponsored doping, from participating in the 2018 Winter Olympics, which is going to take place at Pyeongchang in South Korea.

As per the report, the IOC has received some evidence from the agency, which is investigating the allegations related to Russia’s state-sponsored doping, that Moscow, which hosted the 2014 Games, clandestinely entertained the criminal act, which has the potential to taint the purity of the sports and games.

Anyway, there are reports that those Russian athletes who can prove that they are not guilty and can pass the doping test, will be allowed to participate in the upcoming sports event. Notably, the IOC has, as per the report, asserted that even though the aforementioned athletes would be allowed to participate in the event, they will not be given permission to compete under the tainted country’s flag.

Several Russian political leaders have denounced the move and urged the Russians athletes to boycott the upcoming Olympics as a protest to register the country’s dissatisfaction and disagreement.

Meanwhile, some others, who are close to the Russian sports, have welcomed the move, which has shown a good model by declining from punishing the innocent athletes for the crimes committed by few other criminal-minded ones.
