Russia Protests against corruption : Opposition leader Alexey Navalny Jailed.

GettyImages-660473328_1497264943448_9751606_ver1.0Following a nation wide anti- corruption rally, Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny was sentenced to 30 days of detention. Navalny, 41 was arrested because of the clash between the protesters and the police in Moscow and St. Petersburg. His hope of rattling the Kremlin by mobilizing support on social network was shattered. He would be contesting opposite to Vladimir Putin in next year’s presidential election.

Along with him, around 1400 people were arrested in St Petersburg and Moscow. The rally against the corruption is said to have joined by thousands of people in and around the two cities. Thou the Russian authorities had already warned it to be illegal people still went on to protest. The prosecutor general had already said that the lae enforcement would take necessary steps to stop the provocation, mass unrest or any actions leading to a violation of public security, creating conditions threatening the life and health of citizens.

In Concern, the United states have asked Russia to release the protesters and has also condemned for the same. The White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was quoted as “ an affront to core democratic values”.
