Indirectly declaring that the jail term awarded to the handicap athlete was too lenient, a South African court doubled Oscar Pistorius’s jail sentence to thirteen years and five months.

The case against the handicap Olympian is that he shot his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, to death on February 14, 2013.

Initially, he was given a less severe sentence of five years by the lower court. But, later, the sentence term was increased as he was found guilty in the murder.

Earlier, the family members of Ms Steenkamp expressed serious dissatisfaction in the way in which the case was progressing, as in the lower courts the athlete’s statement was given more prominence than usual.

During the trial, the Olympian’s lawyers argued that the athlete killed his celebrity lover after mistaking her for a burglar. However, that statement was denounced by the model’s family members and the prosecution alike.

Anyway, the family members of the late model have expressed satisfaction in the new verdict announced by the court.

The increment of the jail term means that now the athlete would have to serve the highest jail term normally given for similar cases in the country.

Notably, the main question which neither the defendant’s lawyer nor the athlete failed to give a satisfactory answer during that trial was that why the athlete, who killed his lower after mistaking her for a burglar, failed to fire a warning shot.
