South American Football corruption issue: Trial begins in New York

The trial in one of the cases related to the South American Football corruption issue has begun in the US city of New York Today.

In this case, the prime accused personals are three renowned South American Football officials: Jose Maria Marin, Juan Angel Napout and Manuel Burga.

All of them have been charged with wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering. They have pleaded not guilty before the court.

Football is one of the most popular games. Those working in the field make a huge amount from this game. Unfortunately, some use this game to make wealth.

In the recent past, the ‘Federation Internationale of Football Association’, one of the most famous organisations operating in this sector, was also been tainted by the corruption allegations.

Those officials, who were implicated in the case failed before the New York court, had enormous influence in the South American Football sector. Mr Marin was the president of Brazil’s Football Association, while Mr Napout and Mr Burga were the President of CONMEBOL and Peru’s Soccer Federation respectively.

It has been said that there are several disgraced officials, who are facing similar cases, in the witness list presented by the prosecution. At this moment it is not clear whether it will affect the case or not. The defence lawyers have already pointed out it as the weakness of the case.
