South Korea likely to welcome North Korea for talks

The South Korean government, which was impressed by the North Korean leader’s New Year statement, has expressed its willingness to meet its northern counterpart for discussions.

Last day, the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong-un, while delivering his New Year speech, giving surprise to many, said that his country was interested to send participants in the Winter Olympics, which is going to take place at PyeongChang, South Korea.

Surprisingly, the friendly gesture was shown at a time when the iron curtain country was suffering serious isolation.

The United States, the prime opponent of the communist nation, has been trying their level best to isolate North Korea from the rest of the world, particularly from those who are close to them, since Pyongyang started its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Anyway, it is clear that the South Korean government is very interested to forge a friendly relation with their isolated neighbor.

The organisers of the Olympics have also expressed happiness in the development. Though the registration process for those qualified to attend the Olympics have been closed, the organisers can provide some relief to the North Korean athletes if the International Olympics Committee approves.

Ryom Tae-Ok and Kim Ju-Sik are the only two North Koreans qualified to attend the Winter Olympics 2018.
