Maida flour – 2 cups

Rava  (semolina) – ¼ cup

Egg – 2

Baking Soda – 1 teaspoon

Sugar – As per taste

Water – As required

Cardamom – ½ teaspoon (powder)

Oil – for frying

Salt – a pinch

Vanilla Essence – few drops

Milk – ½ cup

Water – as needed



Take a deep bowl. Beat the egg well. Add sugar and again beat well until it dissolves completely. Keep it aside.

Take another pan and add maida flour, rava (semolina), baking soda, salt and cardamom powder into it. Mix well.

Then pour milk, egg- sugar mixture and vanilla essence into it. Heat it over low flame.

Combine everything well. Remove the pan from the flame. Knead well by adding water little by little. Make the dough tightly. Cover it and keep the dough for 1 hour.

Shape the dough into a square log shape and cut them into thick and equal sized square pieces.

Make a deep cross mark on the center of the square pieces using a knife. And keep it aside.

Heat oil in a deep pan for frying. Fry it until it changes brown in color on medium heat.

Drain them in tissue paper to remove the excess oil.

Tasty vettu cake/tea cake is ready. Serve it as an evening snack with hot tea.
