Venezuelan supremo bans main opponents from taking part in upcoming Presidential election

It seems that the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro, has no mood to step down from the top position of the oil rich country located in the north of the South America.

The president, while speaking to the media personals, has claimed that as per the criteria created by the newly formed National Constituent Assembly, which is dominated by the pro-government members, those parties which failed to participate in the Mayoral election will not be eligible to participate in the upcoming Presidential election.

All three main opposition parties boycotted that Mayoral election, which took place last day, citing that the electoral system of the country was highly biased and corrupted.

Anyway, unsurprisingly, in the election in which the turnout was far less than fifty per cent, the ruling party members, particularly the supremo’s loyalists, have won more than three-fourth of the total number of seats in which the pro-government members participated.

Critics, however, believe that the new move is a tactical attempt to make sure the president’s victory in the upcoming election in the country in which the preponderance of the people are living under poverty despite the availability of huge amount of wealth in the form of oil, coal and other natural resources.
